Jungkook , the youngest member of BTS
Jeon Jung-kook known worldwide as Jungkook, is a South Korean singer and songwriter. He is the youngest member and vocalist of the South Korean boy band BTS.
Jungkook is the main vocalist, center, lead dancer, sub rapper, one of the visual of the boy group BTS.
As a solo artist, he has released first self-produced song "Still With You" in 2020.
Jungkook was born in Busan, South Korea on 1st September, 1997. His family comprises of his parents and an elder brother. His study in Elementary and Middle School completed in Busan. After becoming a trainee, he went to Singu Middle School in Seoul. When Jungkook was young, he dreamt of becoming a badminton player but later he was inspired on seeing G-Dragon perform "Heartbreaker" on television and decided to become a singer.
In 2011, Jungkook appeared in audition for the South Korean talent show Superstar K in Daegu but he was not selected. Seven entertainment companies gave him offer to work with them after this show. On seeing RM perform, who is now his bandmate, he decided to join as a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment. He went to Los Angeles during the summer of 2012 to receive dance training from Movement Lifestyle. Before his debut in June 2012, he appeared in Jo Kwon's "I'm Da One" music video and also worked as a backup dancer for Glam. In 2017, he did his graduation from Seoul's School of Performing Arts, an arts high school. His enrolment at Global Cyber University, majoring in Broadcasting and Entertainment was in 2020.
On June 12, 2013, Jungkook debuted as a member of BTS on June 12, 2013 with the release of the single 2 Cool 4 Skool. He released two solo tracks, first one titled "Begin" on the 2016 album Wings and the second, a future bass track titled "Euphoria", was originally released as part of a BTS short film entitled "Euphoria: Theme of Love Yourself Wonder" and later on Love Yourself: Answer.
Jungkook was the main producer of several BTS' songs, which includes "Love is Not Over" and "Magic Shop". On October 25, 2018, Jung Kook alongwith BTS bandmates was honoured with the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea.
In September 2015, Jung Kook took active part in the "One Dream, One Korea" campaign by collaborating with numerous Korean artists in memory of the Korean War. On September 24 the song was released and presented at the One K Concert in Seoul on October 15.
In 2016, Jung Kook got casted in the pilot episode of Flower Crew. After appearing in Celebrity Bromance, Jungkook under the name "Fencing Man," appeared in Jing of Mask Singer in episode 72.
Jungkook performed in "We Don't Talk Anymore" with original singer Charlie Puth on 6th November 2018 in a special collaboration stage during the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards.
As a part of BTS' yearly debut celebrations On June 4, 2020, Jung Kook released the song "Still With You", for free on platforms such as SoundCloud which was produced by Jung Kook.
Impact and influence
Jung Kook ranked as the third most-loved celebrity of the year in South Korea in 2019 as per survet conducted by Gallup Korea. He debuted on the list in 2016 at 20th, then ranked 17th in 2017, and then 8th in 2018. In 2018, Jung Kook is in the most beloved celebrities list in China. In December 2018, a video of him singing in the studio became the most retweeted tweet in South Korea that year. Various artists have cited him as an influence and role model. Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and Usher among Jungkook's musical inspirations.
He got the nickname "Sold Out King" as items that he is seen using often sell out quickly which include shoes, Downy fabric softener, wine, novels—namely I Decided to Live as Me by Kim Soo-hyun, which became a best-seller in both Korea and Japan—and Hanbok.
According to the mid-year chart Jung Kook was 2019's most-searched male K-pop idol on Google. He topped the chart again in 2020, and was the most searched K-pop idol on YouTube in 2019 and 2020. He ranked first in 'Top K-Pop Stars' for 3 consecutive years on Tumblr. On Twitter, he had the most retweeted tweet of 2019, and the 2nd most retweeted tweet of 2020. In March 2021, Jungkook set a new all-time record for the most real-time viewers in V Live history when his solo live broadcast surpassed 22 million simultaneous viewers—he first broke the record in October 2018, when his broadcast surpassed 3.7 million viewers worldwide.
In 2017, Jungkook collapsed during a concert in Chile as he was feeling unwell that day and there were no underlying issues. A heel injury on the Love Yourself World Tour in 2018, prevented him from participating in choreography. So he sang while seated during part the European leg of the tour.
In November 2019, Jungkook was involved in a car accident with a taxi, no one got major injuries and an amicable settlement was agreed upon.
Jungkook has lived in Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea with his bandmates since 2018. In July 2019, he purchased an apartment in Yongsan District, Seoul worth ₩4 billion, which he gifted to his older brother in December 2020. Jungkook's net worth was estimated to be US$20 million which was assessed on 2021.
